Alicia Gabriela Martínez is an Argentine concert singer with a wide repertoire extending from baroque to contemporary works.
Born in Neuquén, she studied at the “Universidad Nacional de las Artes” in Buenos Aires, with Prof. Marta Blanco. After her successful Bachelor’s degree (Summa cum laude), she went on to study opera at the “Institute Theatre Colon”, Buenos Aires with Prof. Mónica Philibert. In Switzerland she completed the Master Liedduo Performance at the Zurich University of the Arts under the direction of Prof. Werner Güra and Prof. Christoph Berner.
She actively participated in various master classes (Margreet Honig, Edda Moser, Daniel Fueter, Ulrike Sonntag, Hartmut Höll, Mitsuko Shirai, Simon Lepper, Raúl Giménez, Lorenzo Regazzo), was a scholarship holder of the DAAD and Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now, Germany. She also received advice from singer Sarah Maria Sun and was recently selected for a masterclass with Barbara Hannigan in January 2023 at Stadthaus Winterthur.
She holds several awards:
1st prize in “Interpretation Competition Contemporary Music” at the Zurich University of the Arts, Zurich, Switzerland, 2022.
Finalist in the 11th International Chamber Music Competition “Franz Schubert and the Music of Modernity”, Graz, Austria, 2022.
2nd prize in the 7th John Cage Interpretation Award Halberstadt, Germany, 2021.
2nd prize in “Interpretation Competition Contemporary Music” at the Zurich University of the Arts, Zurich, Switzerland, 2021.
The prize “Best Interpretation of Argentine Music” in “La Scala de San Telmo”, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2012.
2nd prize at the I. Lumen Artis Competition for Chamber Music in Voice and Piano, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2012.
1st prize at the Mozarteum Youth Music Competition, Santa Fe, Argentina, 2011.
She has special interests in contemporary music and works closely with composers such as Bernhard Lang, Alfons Karl Zwicker, Moritz Eggert, Christian Jost, Isabel Mundry, Judith Weir, George Lewis and others. The concert in October 2022 at Zeughaus Teufen, Switzerland, was recorded and will be broadcast on SRF 2 Kultur in February 2023. In November 2022, she made her debut at the Tonhalle Zurich with Messiaen’s Harawi Songs. In December 2022 she performed the work “Des Schicksals Gestalt” by A.K. Zwicker at the Tonhalle St. Gallen, Switzerland.
In 2012, she and pianist Alejandro Cho formed the Duo Martínez/Cho, with whom she performs regularly on stage.
Alicia Martínez is engaged in various concerts, opera productions and recitals as well as in concert halls and theatres in Europe and South America.
